Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.66

उदीर्णसंरंभतमोवृतानना तथाऽवमुक्तोत्तममाल्यभूषणा।
नरेन्द्रपत्नी विमला बभूव सा तमोवृता द्यौरिव मग्नतारका॥

udīrṇa-saṁrambha-tamo-vṛtānanā
tathāvamuktottama-mālya-bhūṣaṇā
narendra-patnī vimalā babhūva sā
tamo-vṛtā dyaur iva magna-tārakā

udīrṇa-saṁrambha-tamaḥ-vṛta-ānanā = her face now covered by the darkness of extreme fury; tathā = then; avamukta-uttama-mālya-bhūṣaṇā = removed her excellent necklace and ornaments; nara-indra-patnī = queen; vimalā = the pure; babhūva = was; = she; tamaḥ-vṛtā = when it is covered by the darkness of dark blue clouds; dyauḥ = the sky; iva = like; magna-tārakā = and the stars have set.

Then the pure queen removed her excellent necklace and ornaments. Her face now covered over by the darkness of extreme fury, she was like the sky when it is covered by the darkness of dark blue clouds and the stars have set.

[Kaikeyī is described as a pure queen because] she was previously pure.
