Chapter 10: Daśaratha Meets Kaikeyī
Text 2.10.18
न हि तस्य पुरा देवी तां वेलामत्यवर्तत।
न च राजा गृहं शून्यं प्रविवेश कदाचन॥
na hi tasya purā devī tāṁ velām atyavartata
na ca rājā gṛhaṁ śūnyaṁ praviveśa kadācana
na hi = never; tasya = his; purā = in the past; devī = queen; tām = that; velām = time of love [when they were together]; atyavartata = had missed; na = never; ca = and; rājā = the king; gṛham = house; śūnyam = the empty; praviveśa = had entered; kadācana = ever.
His queen had never missed that time of love [when they were together] in the past, and the king had never ever entered the empty house.
This is why he was he was dejected.
