Chapter 11: Kaikeyī Demands two Boons
Text 2.11.18
स्मर राजन्पुरावृत्तं तस्मिन्दैवासुरे रणे।
तत्र चाच्यावयच्छत्रुस्तव जीवितमन्तरा॥
smara rājan purā-vṛttaṁ tasmin daivāsure raṇe
tatra cācyāvayac chatrus tava jīvitam antarā
smara = remember; rājan = O king; purā-vṛttam = an ancient incident; tasmin = that took place during a; daiva-asure = between the devas and asuras; raṇe = war; tatra ca = at night; acyāvayat = had endangered; śatruḥ = the enemy; tava = your; jīvitam = life; antarā = in the midst of a battle.
O king, remember an ancient incident that took place during a war between the devas and asuras. The enemy had endangered your life in the midst of a battle at night.
Daśaratha’s enemy had thrown weapons and so on at him, causing him to faint.
