Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.9

त्वं मयात्मविनाशार्थं भवनं स्वं प्रवेशिता।
अविज्ञानान्नृपसुता व्याली तीक्ष्णविषा यथा॥

tvaṁ mayātma-vināśārthaṁ bhavanaṁ svaṁ praveśitā
avijñānān nṛpa-sutā vyālī tīkṣṇa-viṣā yathā

tvam = you; mayā = I; ātma-vināśa-artham = just to destroy myself; bhavanam = into home; svam = my; praveśitā = have brought; avijñānāt = without knowing [your character]; nṛpa-sutā = a princess; vyālī = a female snake; tīkṣṇa-viṣā = with sharp poison; yathā = [because] you are like.

Without knowing [your character], I have brought you, a princess, into my home just to destroy myself [because] you are like a female snake with sharp poison.1

1 This is an idiomatic way of saying, “By bringing you, a princess, to my home, without knowing your character, I have destroyed myself.”
