तच्छ्रुत्वा शोकसन्तप्ता सन्तापयसि मां भृशम्।
आविष्टासि गृहं शूण्यं सा त्वं परवशं गता॥
tac chrutvā śoka-santaptā santāpayasi māṁ bhṛśam
āviṣṭāsi gṛhaṁ śūṇyaṁ sā tvaṁ para-vaśaṁ gatā
tat = about Rāma’s coronation; śrutvā = by hearing; śoka-santaptā = you have become afflicted with sorrow; santāpayasi = and you are afflicting with sorrow; mām = me; bhṛśam = greatly by your strong obstinacy; āviṣṭā asi = have entered; gṛham = house; śūṇyam = this empty; sā tvam = you; para-vaśam = under someone else’s control; gatā = having come.
By hearing about Rāma’s coronation, you have become afflicted with sorrow and you are greatly afflicting me with sorrow by your strong obstinacy. You have entered this empty house, having come under someone else’s control.
Is Kaikeyī testing Daśaratha’s love for Bharata by demanding Rāma’s exile? Considering this, he speaks this verse. He is convinced that someone had counseled her and then Kaikeyī entered the empty house, the house of anger. He implies that all of this isn’t just Kaikeyī testing [his love for Bharata].
In some manuscripts, śūnyair grahair appears in the place of gṛhaṁ śūnyam. It indicates that according to Daśaratha, Kaikeyī was possessed of piśācas and other evil spirits.
