इक्ष्वाकूणां कुले देवि सम्प्राप्तः सुमहानयम्।
अनयो नयसम्पन्ने यत्र ते विकृता मतिः॥
ikṣvākūṇāṁ kule devi samprāptaḥ sumahān ayam
anayo naya-sampanne yatra te vikṛtā matiḥ
ikṣvākūṇām = of the Ikṣvākus; kule = dynasty; devi = O queen; samprāptaḥ = has come; sumahān = very great; ayam = a; anayaḥ = injustice; naya-sampanne = upon the just; yatra = in which; te = your; vikṛtā = has become perverted; matiḥ = intelligence.
O queen, a very great injustice has come upon the just dynasty of the Ikṣvākus in which your intelligence has become perverted.
1 The exact statement of the commentator is sat-prakṛter viparīta-buddhiḥ kulasyānartha-hetuḥ. This remark would well be remembered by members of Vaiṣṇava-sampradāyas which are nothing but spiritual dynasties. When the intelligence of good members of a branch of a bona fide disciplic succession becomes perverted, that branch is spiritually doomed.
Daśaratha here informs Kaikeyī that her words will bring about a disaster to his dynasty. Till now the dynasty of the Ikṣvākus had been in accordance with the principles of law and justice. It is implied that the perversion of the intelligence of a person of good nature [in a dynasty] brings about a disaster in that dynasty.1
