Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.20

न हि किञ्चिदयुक्तं वा विप्रियं वा पुरा मम।
अकरोस्त्वं विशालाक्षि तेन न श्रद्दधाम्यहम्॥

na hi kiñcid ayuktaṁ vā vipriyaṁ vā purā mama
akaros tvaṁ viśālākṣi tena na śraddadhāmy aham

na hi = never ever; kiñcit = anything; ayuktam = inappropriate; vipriyam = displeasing; = or; purā = in the past; mama = to me; akaroḥ = have done; tvam = you; viśāla-akṣi = O wide-eyed lady; tena = so; na śraddadhāmi = don’t believe [in these inappropriate and displeasing words from you]; aham = I.

O wide-eyed lady, you have never ever done anything inappropriate or displeasing to me in the past. So I don’t believe [in these inappropriate and displeasing words from you].1

By analyzing Kaikeyī’s former statements [about Rāmacandra] and her current statements [about Him], Daśaratha came to the conclusion that he should not believe in Kaikeyī’s [current] statements. She had never ever done anything inappropriate, that is, harmful to Daśaratha.

1 King Daśaratha could not believe that Queen Kaikeyī could seriously demand what she had demanded.
