Text 2.12.44
सागरः समयं कृत्वा न वेलामतिवर्तते।
समयं मानृतं कार्षीः पूर्वं वृत्तमनुस्मरन्॥
sāgaraḥ samayaṁ kṛtvā na velām ativartate
samayaṁ mānṛtaṁ kārṣīḥ pūrvaṁ vṛttam anusmaran
sāgaraḥ = the presiding deity of the ocean; samayam kṛtvā = since he promised [the devas to that effect]; na = not; velām = his boundaries; ativartate = does cross; samayam = your promise; mā = not; anṛtam = falsify; kārṣīḥ = do; pūrvam = in the past; vṛttam = the behavior of Śaibya and others; anusmaran = remembering.
The presiding deity of the ocean does not cross his boundaries since he promised [the devas to that effect]. Remembering the behavior of Śaibya and others in the past, do not falsify your promise.
The presiding deity of the ocean Samudra was once requested by the devas to not transgress its boundaries and he promised them that he would not do so.
