Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.45
स त्वं धर्मं परित्यज्य रामं राज्येऽभिषिच्य च।
सह कौसल्यया नित्यं रन्तुमिच्छसि दुर्मते॥
sa tvaṁ dharmaṁ parityajya rāmaṁ rājye ’bhiṣicya ca
saha kausalyayā nityaṁ rantum icchasi durmate
saḥ tvam = you; dharmam = dharma; parityajya = having abandoned; rāmam = Rāma; rājye = to take charge of the kingdom; abhiṣicya = after coronating; ca = and; saha = with; kausalyayā = Kausalyā; nityam = constantly; rantum = to enjoy; icchasi = want; durmate = you evil-minded one.
You evil-minded one, having abandoned dharma and after coronating Rāma to take charge of the kingdom, you want to constantly enjoy with Kausalyā.1
1 Struggling to keep each wife happy (with the husband and with each other) is a misery unique to polygamy.
