नृशंसवृत्ते व्यसनप्रहारिणि प्रसह्य वाक्यं यदिहाद्य भाषसे।
न नाम ते केन मुखात्पतन्त्यधो विशीर्यमाणा दशनाः सहस्रधा॥
nṛśaṃsa-vṛtte vyasana-prahāriṇi
prasahya vākyaṁ yad ihādya bhāṣase
na nāma te kena mukhāt patanty adho
viśīryamāṇā daśanāḥ sahasradhā
nṛśaṁsa-vṛtte = O lady of cruel behavior; vyasana-prahāriṇi = O one who strikes me during a crisis; prasahya = after overthrowing my authority; vākyam = these words; yat = because; iha adya bhāṣase = you speak here and now; na nāma = don’t; te = your; kena = why; mukhāt = your mouth; patanti = fall; adhaḥ = off; viśīryamāṇāḥ = shattering; daśanāḥ = teeth; sahasradhā = into a thousand pieces.
O lady of cruel behavior, O one who strikes me during a crisis, because you speak these words here and now after overthrowing my authority, why don’t your teeth fall off your mouth, shattering into a thousand pieces?
Daśaratha considered his separation from Rāma to be a crisis and Kaikeyī’s repeated requests to be her striking him. Kaikeyī had overthrown Daśaratha’s authority by reviling his independent status as her husband.
