Chapter 14: Daśaratha Grants Kaikeyī her two Boons
Text 2.14.5
तथा ह्यलर्कस्तेजस्वी ब्राह्मणे वेदपारगे।
याचमाने स्वके नेत्रे उद्धृत्याविमना ददौ॥
tathā hy alarkas tejasvī brāhmaṇe veda-pārage
yācamāne svake netre uddhṛtyāvimanā dadau
tathā hi = and; alarkaḥ = Alarka; tejasvī = the powerful; brāhmaṇe = when a brāhmaṇa; veda-pārage = experienced in Vedic knowledge; yācamāne = begged him; svake = for his; netre = eyes; uddhṛtya = removed them; avimanāḥ = happily; dadau = and gave him.
And when a brāhmaṇa experienced in Vedic knowledge begged him for his eyes, the powerful Alarka happily removed them and gave him.
