Chapter 14: Daśaratha Grants Kaikeyī her two Boons
Text 2.14.51
उत्तिष्ठाशु महाराज कृतकौतुकमङ्गलः।
विराजमानो वपुषा मेरोरिव दिवाकरः॥
uttiṣṭhāśu mahā-rāja kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalaḥ
virājamāno vapuṣā meror iva divākaraḥ
uttiṣṭha = get up; āśu = quickly; mahā-rāja = O great king; kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalaḥ = engage in auspicious activities to delight [everyone]; virājamānaḥ vapuṣā = with your personal presence; meroḥ = over Meru; iva = like; divākaraḥ = the sun.
O great king, quickly get up. With your personal presence, engage in auspicious activities to delight [everyone], like the sun over Meru.
Kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalaḥ indicates that Daśaratha should engage in auspicious activities, that is, he should decorate himself to delight everyone in the festivity that has begun. The sun rises over the primary summit of Meru because [one side of] the axle [of its chariot] rests on it.
