Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 14: Daśaratha Grants Kaikeyī her two Boons
Text 2.14.58
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा सान्त्वपूर्वमिवार्थवत्।
अभ्यकीर्यत शोकेन भूय एव महीपतिः॥
iti tasya vacaḥ śrutvā sāntva-pūrvam ivārthavat
abhyakīryata śokena bhūya eva mahī-patiḥ
iti = these; tasya = of his; vacaḥ = words; śrutvā = hearing; sāntva-pūrvam = and appeasing 5; iva = that appeared to be; arthavat = meaningful; abhyakīryata = became filled; śokena = with sorrow; bhūyaḥ eva = again; mahī-patiḥ = the king.
Hearing these words of his that appeared to be meaningful and appeasing, the king again became filled with sorrow.
Sumantra’s words are described as [appearing to be] meaningful because encouragement at the time of waking up the king early in the morning causes him to conquer all of his opponents.
