Chapter 14: Daśaratha Grants Kaikeyī her two Boons
Text 2.14.59

ततः स राजा तं सूतं सन्नहर्षः सुतं प्रति।
शोकरक्तेक्षणः श्रीमानुद्वीक्ष्योवाच धार्मिकः।
वाक्यैस्तु खलु मर्माणि मम भूयो निकृन्तसि॥

tataḥ sa rājā taṁ sūtaṁ sanna-harṣaḥ sutaṁ prati
śoka-raktekṣaṇaḥ śrīmān udvīkṣyovāca dhārmikaḥ
vākyais tu khalu marmāṇi mama bhūyo nikṛntasi

tataḥ = then; saḥ = the; rājā = king; tam = at the; sūtam = charioteer; sanna-harṣaḥ = unhappy; sutam = his son; prati = about; śoka-rakta-īkṣaṇaḥ = with sorrowful red eyes; śrīmān = prosperous; udvīkṣya = looked up and; uvāca = said; dhārmikaḥ = dhārmika; vākyaiḥ tu khalu = with your words; marmāṇi = vitals; mama = my; bhūyaḥ = now; nikṛntasi = you are piercing.

Then the prosperous dhārmika king, unhappy about his son, looked up at the charioteer with sorrowful red eyes and said, “Now you are piercing my vitals with your words.”

The king intended to tell Sumantra, “Kaikeyī’s words have already pierced my vitals. By praising me at this inappropriate time, you are again piercing them.”
