ततो महामेघमहीधराभं प्रभिन्नमत्यङ्कुशमप्रसह्यम्।
रामौपवाह्यं रुचिरं ददर्श शत्रुञ्जयं नागमुदग्रकायम्॥
tato mahā-megha-mahīdharābhaṁ
prabhinnam atyaṅkuśam aprasahyam
rāmaupavāhyaṁ ruciraṁ dadarśa
śatruñjayaṁ nāgam udagra-kāyam
tataḥ = then; mahā-megha-mahīdhara-ābham = it resembled a mountain surrounded by great clouds; prabhinnam = it was intoxicated 9; atyaṅkuśam = the goad to control it was extraordinary; aprasahyam = and uncontrollable; rāma-aupavāhyam = that Rāma used to ride on; ruciram = the beautiful; dadarśa = he saw; śatruñjayam = Śatruñjaya; nāgam = elephant; udagra-kāyam = it had a long trunk.
He then saw Śatruñjaya, the beautiful elephant that Rāma used to ride on. It resembled a mountain surrounded by great clouds. It was intoxicated and uncontrollable. The goad to control it was extraordinary. It had a long trunk.
