Chapter 17: Rāma Glorified by His well-wishers
Text 2.17.20
स कक्ष्या धन्विभिर्गुप्तास्तिस्रोऽतिक्रम्य वाजिभिः।
पदातिरपरे कक्ष्ये द्वे जगाम नरोत्तमः॥
sa kakṣyā dhanvibhir guptās tisro ’tikramya vājibhiḥ
padātir apare kakṣye dve jagāma narottamaḥ
saḥ1 kakṣyāḥ = gateways; dhanvibhiḥ = by archers; guptāḥ = which were protected; tisraḥ = three; atikramya = after passing through; vājibhiḥ = on a chariot drawn by horses; padātiḥ = on foot; apare = through the remaining; kakṣye = gateways; dve = two; jagāma = went; nara-uttamaḥ = Prince Rāma.
After passing through three gateways, which were protected by archers, on a chariot drawn by horses, Prince Rāma went on foot through the remaining two gateways.
