Chapter 18: Kaikeyī Informs Rāma About the two Boons
Text 2.18.15
अतोषयन्महाराजमकुर्वन्वा पितुर्वचः।
मुहूर्तमपि नेच्छेयं जीवितुं कुपिते नृपे॥
atoṣayan mahā-rājam akurvan vā pitur vacaḥ
muhūrtam api neccheyaṁ jīvituṁ kupite nṛpe
atoṣayan = by dissatisfying; mahā-rājam = the great king; akurvan = by disobeying; vā = or; pituḥ = My father’s; vacaḥ = words; muhūrtam = for a moment; api = even; na = not; iccheyam = I do want; jīvitum = to live; kupite = is angry with Me; nṛpe = [or] when the king.
I do not want to live even for a moment by dissatisfying the great king or by disobeying My father’s words, [or] when the king is angry with Me.
