Chapter 18: Kaikeyī Informs Rāma About the two Boons
Text 2.18.16
यतोमूलं नरः पश्येत्प्रादुर्भावमिहात्मनः।
कथं तस्मिन्न वर्तेत प्रत्यक्षे सति दैवते॥
yato mūlaṁ naraḥ paśyet prādurbhāvam ihātmanaḥ
kathaṁ tasmin na varteta pratyakṣe sati daivate
yataḥ mūlam = because of whom; naraḥ = a man; paśyet = one can experience prādurbhāvam = the birth; iha = in this world; ātmanaḥ = of his body; katham = why; tasmin = his father; na = not; varteta = should obey; pratyakṣe = a direct representative; sati = who is; daivate = of God.
Why should a man not obey his father, who is a direct representative of God, because of whom one can experience the birth of his body in this world?
In other words, he should obey his father.
