Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 19: Rāma Promises to Leave for the Forest
Text 2.19.11
दण्डकारण्यमेषोऽहमितो गच्छामि सत्वरः।
अविचार्य पितुर्वाक्यं समा वस्तुं चतुर्दश॥
daṇḍakāraṇyam eṣo ’ham ito gacchāmi satvaraḥ
avicārya pitur vākyaṁ samā vastuṁ caturdaśa
daṇḍakāraṇyam = Daṇḍakāraṇya; eṣaḥ aham = I; itaḥ = from this city; gacchāmi = will leave for; satvaraḥ = immediately; avicārya = not considering; pituḥ = My father’s; vākyam = the nature of instructions; samāḥ = years; vastum = to live there; caturdaśa = for fourteen.
Not considering the nature of My father’s instructions, I will immediately leave for Daṇḍakāraṇya from this city to live there for fourteen years.
“Not considering the nature of My father’s instructions” means “not considering the fact that My father did not personally instruct Me to go to the forest.”
