Chapter 19: Rāma Promises to Leave for the Forest
Text 2.19.16
यावत्वं न वनं यातः पुरादस्मादभित्वरन्।
पिता तावन्न ते राम स्नास्यते भोक्ष्यतेऽपि वा॥
yāvat tvaṁ na vanaṁ yātaḥ purād asmād abhitvaran
pitā tāvan na te rāma snāsyate bhokṣyate ’pi vā
yāvat = as long as; tvam = You; na = not; vanam = to the forest; yātaḥ = and depart; purāt = city; asmāt = from this; abhitvaran = hurry up; pitā = father; tāvat na = not; te = Your; rāma = Rāma; snāsyate = will take bath; bhokṣyate = eat; api vā = or even.
Rāma, as long as You do not hurry up and depart from this city to the forest, Your father will not take bath or even eat.
