Chapter 19: Rāma Promises to Leave for the Forest
Text 2.19.18
रामोऽप्युत्थाप्य राजानं कैकेय्याभिप्रचोदितः।
कशयेवाहतो वाजी वनं गन्तुं कृतत्वरः॥
rāmo ’py utthāpya rājānaṁ kaikeyyābhipracoditaḥ
kaśayevāhato vājī vanaṁ gantuṁ kṛta-tvaraḥ
rāmaḥ api = Rāma; utthāpya = then raised up; rājānam = the king; kaikeyyā = by Kaikeyī; abhipracoditaḥ = impelled [to quickly depart]; kaśayā iva āhataḥ vājī = like a horse being whipped; vanam = to the forest; gantum = to depart; kṛta-tvaraḥ = and hurried.
Rāma then raised the king up and, impelled by Kaikeyī [to quickly depart] like a horse being whipped, hurried to depart to the forest.
