Chapter 19: Rāma Promises to Leave for the Forest
Text 2.19.27
स रामस्य वचः श्रुत्वा भृशं दुःखहतः पिता।
शोकादशक्रुवन्बाष्पं प्ररुरोद महास्वनम्॥
sa rāmasya vacaḥ śrutvā bhṛśaṁ duḥkha-hataḥ pitā
śokād aśaknuvan bāṣpaṁ praruroda mahā-svanam
saḥ = he; rāmasya = Rāma’s; vacaḥ = words; śrutvā = hearing; bhṛśam = became; duḥkha-hataḥ = greatly afflicted by distress; pitā = His father; śokāt = out of sorrow; aśaknuvan = unable; bāṣpam = to withhold his tears; praruroda = cried out; mahā-svanam = very loudly.
Hearing Rāma’s words, His father became greatly afflicted by distress. Unable to withhold his tears out of sorrow, he cried out very loudly.
