Chapter 20: Kausalyā’s Lamentation
Text 2.20.14
कौसल्यापि तदा देवी रात्रिं स्थित्वा समाहिता।
प्रभाते त्वकरोत्पूजां विष्णोः पुत्रहितैषिणी॥
kausalyāpi tadā devī rātriṁ sthitvā samāhitā
prabhāte tv akarot pūjāṁ viṣṇoḥ putra-hitaiṣiṇī
kausalyā api tadā = Kausalyā; devī = Queen; rātrim = at night; sthitvā = had stayed awake; samāhitā = following her vows; prabhāte tu = early in the morning; akarot = she was performing; pūjām = worship; viṣṇoḥ = of Lord Viṣṇu; putra-hita-eṣiṇī = desiring her son’s welfare.
Queen Kausalyā had stayed awake at night following her vows. Desiring her son’s welfare, she was performing worship of Lord Viṣṇu early in the morning.
