Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.16
त्वया चैव मया चैव कृत्वा वैरमनुत्तमम्।
कस्य शक्तिः श्रियं दातुं भरतायारिशासन॥
tvayā caiva mayā caiva kṛtvā vairam anuttamam
kāsya śaktiḥ śriyaṁ dātuṁ bharatāyāri-śāsana
tvayā ca eva = when you; mayā ca eva = and I; kṛtvā vairam = exhibit resistence; anuttamam = extreme; kā asya śaktiḥ = who has the potency; śriyam = the prosperity [of the kingdom]; dātum = to give; bharatāya = to Bharata; ari-śāsana = O ruler of Your enemies.
O ruler of Your enemies, when You and I exhibit extreme resistence, who has the potency to give the prosperity [of the kingdom] to Bharata?
