Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.23
न चाधर्म्यं वचः श्रुत्वा सपत्न्या मम भाषितम्।
विहाय शोकसन्तप्तां गन्तुमर्हसि मामितः॥
na cādharmyaṁ vacaḥ śrutvā sapatnyā mama bhāṣitam
vihāya śoka-santaptāṁ gantum arhasi mām itaḥ
na ca = not; adharmyam = to the adhārmika; vacaḥ = words; śrutvā = listening; sapatnyā = by co-wife; mama = my; bhāṣitam = spoken; vihāya = abandoning; śoka-santaptām = for I burn in sorrow; gantum = leave; arhasi = You should; mām = me; itaḥ = this place.
Listening to the adhārmika words spoken by my co-wife, You should not leave this place abandoning me for I burn in sorrow.
