Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.25

शुश्रूषुर्जननीं पुत्रः स्वगृहे नियतो वसन्।
परेण तपसा युक्तः काश्यपस्त्रिदिवं गतः॥

śuśrūṣur jananīṁ putraḥ sva-gṛhe niyato vasan
pareṇa tapasā yuktaḥ kāśyapas tri-divaṁ gataḥ

śuśrūṣuḥ = desiring to serve; jananīm = his mother; putraḥ = a son; sva-gṛhe = in his home; niyataḥ = under scriptural rules and regulations; vasan = staying; pareṇa = in great; tapasā = austerity; yuktaḥ = engaged; kāśyapaḥ = of Kaśyapa; tri-divam = the world of the demigods; gataḥ = and thus attained.

Staying in his home under scriptural rules and regulations, a son of Kaśyapa, desiring to serve his mother, engaged in great austerity and thus attained the world of the demigods.

A son of Kaśyapa engaged in the great austerity of serving his mother and thus attained the world of the demigods.

GLOSS. The son of Kaśyapa referred to here is Garuḍa. He [got and] gave his mother [celestial] nectar and thus reached the heavens. This historical narration in the Mahābhārata can be studied [in this regard].
