Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.26
येथैव राजा पूज्यस्ते गौरवेण तथा ह्यहम्।
त्वां नाहमनुजानामि न गन्तव्यमितो वनम्॥
yathaiva rājā pūjyas te gauraveṇa tathā hy aham
tvāṁ nāham anujānāmi na gantavyam ito vanam
yathā eva = just as; rājā = the king; pūjyaḥ = is meant to be worshiped; te = by You; gauraveṇa = respectfully; tathā hi = so; aham = am I; tvām = You; na aham anujānāmi = [and so] I don’t permit; na gantavyam = You cannot go; itaḥ = from here; vanam = to the forest.
Just as the king is meant to be respectfully worshiped by You, so am I, [and so] I don’t permit You. You cannot go to the forest from here.
