Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.46
तमेवमुक्त्वा सौहार्दाद्भ्रातरं लक्ष्मणाग्रजः।
उवाच भूयः कौसल्यां प्राञ्जलिः शिरसा नतः॥
tam evam uktvā sauhārdād bhrātaraṁ lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ
uvāca bhūyaḥ kausalyāṁ prāñjaliḥ śirasā nataḥ
tam1 evam = thus; uktvā = having spoken; sauhārdāt = affectionately; bhrātaram = to His brother; lakṣmaṇa-agrajaḥ = the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa; uvāca = and spoke [as follows]; bhūyaḥ = again; kausalyām = to Kausalyā; prāñjaliḥ = joined His palms in supplication; śirasā = His head down; nataḥ = bowed.
Having thus affectionately spoken to His brother, the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa again joined His palms in supplication, bowed His head down to Kausalyā and spoke [as follows].
