Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.47

अनुमन्यस्व मां देवि गमिष्यन्तमितो वनम्।
शापितासि मम प्राणैः कुरु स्वस्त्ययनानि मे॥

anumanyasva māṁ devi gamiṣyantam ito vanam
śāpitāsi mama prāṇaiḥ kuru svasty-ayanāni me

anumanyasva = permit; mām = Me; devi = O queen; gamiṣyantam = to go; itaḥ = from here; vanam = to the forest; śāpitā asi = promise Me; mama = My; prāṇaiḥ = on life [that you will not obstruct Me]; kuru svasti-ayanāni me = give Me your blessings.

O queen, permit Me to go to the forest from here. Promise Me on My life [that you will not obstruct Me]. Give Me your blessings.

He then anticipated that Mother Kausalyā might ask, “Why don’t You carry out my instructions?” He wanted to make her understand that He will fulfill her instructions after He fulfilled His father’s instructions.
