Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.49
शोकः सन्धार्यतां मातर्हृदये साधु मा शुचः।
वनवासादिहैष्यामि पुनः कृत्वा पितुर्वचः॥
śokaḥ sandhāryatāṁ mātar hṛdaye sādhu mā śucaḥ
vana-vāsād ihaiṣyāmi punaḥ kṛtvā pitur vacaḥ
śokaḥ = your distress; sandhāryatām = control; mātaḥ = mother; hṛdaye = in your heart; sādhu = please; mā śucaḥ = don’t worry; vana-vāsāt = after staying in the forest; iha = to this place; eṣyāmi punaḥ = I will return; kṛtvā = after carrying out; pituḥ = My father’s; vacaḥ = instruction.
Mother, please control your distress in your heart. Don’t worry. I will return to this place after staying in the forest, after carrying out My father’s instruction.
Rāma was not the only one who had some responsibilities to carry out. Kausalyā also had her part to play. He mentions that in the next verse.
