Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.48
तीर्णप्रतिज्ञश्च वनात्पुनरेष्याम्यहं पुरीम्।
ययातिरिव राजर्षिः पुरा हित्वा पुनर्दिवम् ॥
tīrṇa-pratijñaś ca vanāt punar eṣyāmy ahaṁ purīm
yayātir iva rāja-rṣiḥ purā hitvā punar divam
tīrṇa-pratijñaḥ ca = after I fulfill My promise; vanāt = from the forest; punaḥ eṣyāmi = will return; aham = I; purīm = to the city; yayātiḥ = Yayāti; iva = like; rāja-ṛṣiḥ = the saintly king; purā hitvā = who had fallen from the heavens; punaḥ divam = and then returned to the heavens.
I will return to the city from the forest after I fulfill My promise like the saintly king Yayāti who had fallen from the heavens and then returned to the heavens.
