Chapter 22: Rāma Instructs Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.22.10
तस्यापि हि भवेदस्मिन्कर्मण्यप्रतिसंहृते।
सत्यं नेति मनस्तापस्तस्य तापस्तपेच्च माम्॥
tasyāpi hi bhaved asmin karmaṇy apratisaṁhṛte
satyaṁ neti manas-tāpas tasya tāpas tapec ca mām
tasya = his; api hi = also; bhavet1 asmin karmaṇi = if this coronation ceremony for Me; apratisaṁhṛte = is not cancelled; satyam na = he has become devoid of truthfulness; iti = thinking that; manaḥ-tāpaḥ = mind will suffer; tasya = his; tāpaḥ = distress; tapet = will distress; ca = and; mām = Me.
If this coronation ceremony for Me is not cancelled, his mind will also suffer thinking that he has become devoid of truthfulness. And his distress will distress Me.

If Lord Rāma’s coronation ceremony is not cancelled, Daśaratha will think that he has become devoid of truthfulness, that is, he has not fulfilled the promise to [Kaikeyī] to grant [her] two boons.
