Chapter 22: Rāma Instructs Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.22.9
सत्यः सत्याभिसन्धश्च नित्यं सत्यपराक्रमः।
परलोकभयाद्भीतो निर्भयोऽस्तु पिता मम॥
satyaḥ satyābhisandhaś ca nityaṁ satya-parākramaḥ
para-loka-bhayād bhīto nirbhayo ’stu pitā mama
satyaḥ = truthful to his words; satya-abhisandhaḥ = his promises; ca = and; nityam = is always; satya-parākramaḥ = his prowess is unfailing; para-loka-bhayāt = of losing a superior destination in his next life; bhītaḥ = he is afraid; nirbhayaḥ astu = let him be free from that fear; pitā = father; mama = My.
My father is always truthful to his words and his promises. His prowess is unfailing. He is afraid of losing a superior destination in his next life. Let him be free from fear.
It is implied that Rāma’s father should be freed from fear because he was established in truthfulness.
