Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 22: Rāma Instructs Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.22.24

असङ्कल्पितमेवेह यदकस्मात्प्रवर्तते।
निवर्त्यारम्भमारब्धं ननु दैवस्य कर्म तत्॥

asaṅkalpitam eveha yad akasmāt pravartate
nivartyārambham ārabdhaṁ nanu daivasya karma tat

asaṅkalpitam eva = against one’s wishes; iha = in this world; yat = which; akasmāt = suddenly; pravartate = happens; nivartya = stopping; ārambham = plans; ārabdham = one’s initiated; nanu = is certainly; daivasya = of providence; karma = the work; tat = that.

That which suddenly happens against one’s wishes, stopping one’s initiated plans, is certainly the work of providence in this world.

In this verse, He clarifies what He meant by “everything else seen in the world due to an inconceivable cause” in text 22. In the next two verses, He states the benefit of [understanding] this instruction.
