Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 23: Lakṣmaṇa’s Arguments
Text 2.23.35

बहुभिश्चैकमत्यस्यन्नेकेन च बहूञ्जनान्।
विनियोक्ष्याम्यहं बाणान्नृवाजिगजमर्मसु॥

bahubhiś caikam atyasyann ekena ca bahūñ janān
viniyokṣyāmy ahaṁ bāṇān nṛ-vāji-gaja-marmasu

bahubhiḥ ca = many arrows; ekam = at a single hero; atyasyan = shooting 5; ekena = a single arrow; ca = and; bahūn = at many; janān = soldiers; viniyokṣyāmi = will discharge; aham = I; bāṇān = them; nṛ-vāji-gaja-marmasu = at the vital parts of men, horses and elephants.

Shooting many arrows at a single hero and a single arrow at many soldiers, I will discharge them at the vital parts of men, horses and elephants.

Therefore, Lakṣmaṇa implies, Rāmacandra should not worry about how Lakṣmaṇa would kill the many [who would oppose Him].
