Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 25: Kausalyā Invokes Auspiciousness for Rāma
Text 2.25.1

सापनीय तमायासमुपस्पृश्य जलं शुचिः।
चकार माता रामस्य मङ्गलानि मनस्विनी॥

sāpanīya tam āyāsam upaspṛśya jalaṁ śuciḥ
cakāra mātā rāmasya maṅgalāni manasvinī

= she; apanīya = giving up; tam āyāsam = her worries; upaspṛśya jalam = then performed ācamana and 1; śuciḥ = thus purified herself; cakāra = then invoked; mātā = mother; rāmasya = Lord Rāma’s; maṅgalāni = auspiciousness [for Him]; manasvinī = liberal.

Giving up her worries, Lord Rāma’s liberal mother then performed ācamana and thus purified herself. She then invoked auspiciousness for [Him].

The author now reveals Kausalyā’s invocation of auspiciousness [for Rāma’s welfare].

Crying brings about impurity. After one becomes pure from such impurity, one can offer prayers to the deities. Therefore it is mentioned here that Kausalyā-devī performed ācamana.
