Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.3
वैदेही चापि तत्सर्वं न शुश्राव तपस्विनी।
तदेव हृदि तस्याश्च यौवराज्याभिषेचनम्॥
vaidehī cāpi tat sarvaṁ na śuśrāva tapasvinī
tad eva hṛdi tasyāś ca yauvarājyābhiṣecanam
vaidehī ca api = Vaidehī; tat sarvam na śuśrāva = [still] hadn’t heard any of that [by then]; tapasvinī = she was absorbed in austerities; tat eva = that was going on; hṛdi = [while thinking] in heart; tasyāḥ ca = her; yauvarājya-abhiṣecanam = His coronation as a crown prince.
Vaidehī [still] hadn’t heard any of that [by then]. She was absorbed in austerities [while thinking] in her heart that [His] coronation as a crown prince was going on.
Sītā-devī did not get to know of any of that, that is, the cancelation of the coronation and so on. She was absorbed in austerities, that is, fixed in her regulations of vows, fasting and so on for Rāma’s coronation.
