Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.4

देवकार्यं स्वयं कृत्वा कृतज्ञा हृष्टचेतना।
अभिज्ञा राजधर्माणां राजपुत्रं प्रतीक्षते॥

deva-kāryaṁ svayaṁ kṛtvā kṛta-jñā hṛṣṭa-cetanā
abhijñā rāja-dharmāṇāṁ rāja-putraṁ pratīkṣate

deva-kāryam = her worship of God; svayam = personally; kṛtvā = having completed; kṛta-jñā = she was aware of her etiquette; hṛṣṭa-cetanā = and delighted in heart; abhijñā = well aware; rāja-dharmāṇām = of the features of a king; rāja-putram = for the king’s son, Rāma; pratīkṣate = she waited.

Having personally completed her worship of God, she was aware of her etiquette and delighted in heart. Well aware of the features of a king, she waited for the king’s son, Rāma.

Kṛta-jñā indicates that Sītā was aware of the etiquette observed by consecrated queens towards their coronated husband by worshipping His feet with fragrances, flowers and so on. Abhijñā rāja-dharmāṇām indicates that she was well aware of the unique features of a person who has been coronated as a king—a white umbrella [above him], cāmara fans [fanning him], a royal throne and so on. She waited for her husband [to arrive] with such insignia.
