Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.23
चतुर्दश हि वर्षाणि वस्तव्यं दण्डके मया।
पित्रा मे भरतश्चापि यौवराज्ये नियोजितः॥
caturdaśa hi varṣāṇi vastavyaṁ daṇḍake mayā
pitrā me bharataś cāpi yauvarājye niyojitaḥ
caturdaśa hi = for fourteen; varṣāṇi = years; vastavyam = have to reside; daṇḍake = in Daṇḍakāraṇya; mayā = as ordered by My father, I; pitrā = father; me = My; bharataḥ = Bharata; ca api = and; yauvarājye = as the crown prince; niyojitaḥ = has appointed.
As ordered by My father, I have to reside in Daṇḍakāraṇya for fourteen years and My father has appointed Bharata as the crown prince.
