Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.22

तयाद्य मम सज्जेऽस्मिन्नभिषेके नृपोद्यते।
प्रचोदितः ससमयो धर्मेण प्रतिनिर्जितः॥

tayādya mama sajje ’sminn abhiṣeke nṛpodyate
pracoditaḥ sasamayo dharmeṇa pratinirjitaḥ

tayā = she; adya = today; mama = for Me; sajje = was ready; asmin = when this; abhiṣeke = coronation; nṛpa-udyate = by the king’s endeavors; pracoditaḥ = compelled him to fulfill those two boons; sasamayaḥ = after making him promise to do so 3; dharmeṇa = by dharma; pratinirjitaḥ = [and so,] he has been subjugated.

When this coronation for Me was ready by the king’s endeavors, she compelled him today to fulfill those two boons after making him promise to do so. [And so,] he has been subjugated by dharma.

Sasamayaḥ indicates that Kaikeyī first made the king promise that he would fulfill her desire.

Lord Rāma then anticipated that Sītā-devī might ask, “So what?” and so speaks the next verse.
