Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.3
वीराणां राजपुत्राणां शस्त्रास्त्रविदुषां नृप।
अनर्हमयशस्यं च न श्रोतव्यं त्वयेरितम्॥
vīrāṇāṁ rāja-putrāṇāṁ śastrāstra-viduṣāṁ nṛpa
anarham ayaśasyaṁ ca na śrotavyaṁ tvayeritam
vīrāṇām = heroes; rāja-putrāṇām = princes; śastra-astra-viduṣām = and knowers of [the usage of] weapons and arrows; nṛpa = O king; anarham = is unfit [to be spoken by]; ayaśasyam = it leads to infamy; ca = and; na śrotavyam = it should not be heard [by anyone]; tvayā īritam = what You have said.
O king, what You have said is unfit [to be spoken by] heroes, princes and knowers of [the usage of] weapons and arrows. It leads to infamy and it should not be heard by anyone.
