Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.7
यदि त्वं प्रस्थितो दुर्गं वनमद्यैव राघव।
अग्रतस्ते गमिष्यामि मृद्नन्ती कुशकण्टकान्॥
yadi tvaṁ prasthito durgaṁ vanam adyaiva rāghava
agratas te gamiṣyāmi mṛdnantī kuśa-kaṇṭakān
yadi = if; tvam = You; prasthitaḥ = are ready to go; durgam = to the inaccessible; vanam = forest; adya eva = today; rāghava = Rāghava; agrataḥ te = ahead of You; gamiṣyāmi = I will go; mṛdnantī kuśa-kaṇṭakān = stepping on the thorns to make them as soft as grass.
Rāghava, if You are ready to go to the inaccessible forest today, I will go ahead of You, stepping on the thorns to make them as soft as grass.
This is her plain conclusion. She wants to walk ahead of Rāma so that the thorns she walks on will become as soft as grass [so that He does not have to experience the discomfort of being pierced by thorns].
