Chapter 27: Sītā Requests Rāma to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.27.10

अनुशिष्टास्मि मात्रा च पित्रा च विविधाश्रयम्।
नास्मि सम्प्रति वक्तव्या वर्तितव्यं यथा मया॥

anuśiṣṭāsmi mātrā ca pitrā ca vividhāśrayam
nāsmi samprati vaktavyā vartitavyaṁ yathā mayā

anuśiṣṭā asmi = have instructed me; mātrā ca = My mother; pitrā = father; ca = and; vividha-āśrayam = in many ways; na asmi = I don’t; samprati = now; vaktavyā = [so] need to be instructed [on this]; vartitavyam yathā mayā = on how I should deal with my husband.

My mother and father have instructed me in many ways about how I should deal with my husband. [So] I don’t need to be instructed [on this] now.

She then states that she should follow Him according to the instructions [of her parents].

GLOSS. [She intended to say,] “I have also been instructed by my parents to behave like Lakṣmī [behaves with her husband Nārāyaṇa]. You should not tell me to now take shelter of many persons like Bharata.”
