कन्यया च पितुर्गेहे वनवासः श्रुतो मया।
भिक्षिण्याः साधुवृत्ताया मम मातुरिहाग्रतः॥
प्रसादितश्च वै पूर्वं त्वं वै बहुविधं प्रभो।
गमनं वनवासस्य काङ्क्षितं हि सह त्वया॥
kanyayā ca pitur gehe vana-vāsaḥ śruto mayā
bhikṣiṇyāḥ sādhu-vṛttāyā mama mātur ihāgrataḥ
prasāditaś ca vai pūrvaṁ tvaṁ vai bahu-vidhaṁ prabho
gamanaṁ vana-vāsasya kāṅkṣitaṁ hi saha tvayā
kanyayā ca = as an unmarried virgin girl; pituḥ = father’s; gehe = in home; vana-vāsaḥ = I will reside in the forest; śrutaḥ mayā = I have heard that; bhikṣiṇyāḥ = from a female renunciant; sādhu-vṛttāyāḥ = of good conduct; mama = my; mātuḥ = of mother; iha = here; agrataḥ = in front; prasāditaḥ = I have requested [for this]; ca vai = and; pūrvam = already; tvam vai = You; bahu-vidham = several times; prabho = my Lord; gamanam = to go; vana-vāsasya = to the forest; kāṅkṣitam hi = I have hankered; saha = with; tvayā = You.
As an unmarried virgin girl, I have heard that I will reside in the forest from a female renunciant of good conduct in front of my mother in my father’s home. My Lord, I have hankered to go with You to the forest and I have already requested You several times [for this] here.
Sītā-devī had hankered to go to the tapovana and other places on the banks of the Jāhnavī with Śrī Rāmacandra as a pastime.
GLOSS. Sādhu-vṛttāyāḥ indicates that the female renunciant had no intention of cheating [Sītā or her mother].
