Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.22

कौसल्या बिभृयादार्या सहस्रमपि मद्विधान्।
यस्याः सहस्रं ग्रामाणां सम्प्राप्तमुपजीवनम्॥

kausalyā bibhṛyād āryā sahasram api mad-vidhān
yasyāḥ sahasraṁ grāmāṇāṁ samprāptam upajīvanam

kausalyā = Kausalyā-devī; bibhṛyāt = can maintain; āryā = the noble; sahasram = thousands; api = even; mat-vidhān = like Me; yasyāḥ = [for] she; sahasram grāmāṇām = from a thousand villages; samprāptam upajīvanam = receives [income] to sustain herself.

The noble Kausalyā-devī can maintain even thousands like Me [for] she receives [income] to sustain herself from a thousand villages.
