Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.26
आहरिष्यामि ते नित्यं मूलानि च फलानि च।
वन्यानि यानि चान्यानि स्वाहाराणि तपस्विनाम्॥
āhariṣyāmi te nityaṁ mūlāni ca phalāni ca
vanyāni yāni cānyāni svāhārāṇi tapasvinām
āhariṣyāmi = I will bring; te = for You; nityam = daily; mūlāni ca = roots; phalāni ca = fruits; vanyāni = forest food fit to be eaten; yāni ca anyāni = and other; svāhārāṇi = tasty; tapasvinām = by the ascetics.
I will daily bring for You roots, fruits and other tasty forest food fit to be eaten by the ascetics.
Having noted the possible services Lakṣmaṇa could render on the way, He now states the services He can render once they settle in a place. “Other [tasty forest] items” refer to green leafy vegetables, priyāla seeds, honey and so on.
