Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.32
स सुहृज्जनमामन्त्र्य वनवासाय निश्चितः।
इक्ष्वाकुगुरुमागम्य जग्राहायुधमुत्तमम्॥
sa suhṛj-janam āmantrya vana-vāsāya niścitaḥ
ikṣvāku-gurum āgamya jagrāhāyudham uttamam
saḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; suhṛt-janam = from His well-wishers; āmantrya = took permission; vana-vāsāya = to live in the forest [with Rāma]; niścitaḥ = having decided; ikṣvāku-gurum = the guru of the Ikṣvāku dynasty; āgamya = approached and; jagrāha = took; āyudham = weapons; uttamam = the excellent.
Having decided to live in the forest [with Rāma], Lakṣmaṇa took permission from His well-wishers, approached the guru of the Ikṣvāku dynasty and took the excellent weapons.
