Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.34
तमुवाचात्मवान्रामः प्रीत्या लक्ष्मणमागतम्।
काले त्वमागतः सौम्य काङ्क्षिते मम लक्ष्मण॥
tam uvācātmavān rāmaḥ prītyā lakṣmaṇam āgatam
kāle tvam āgataḥ saumya kāṅkṣite mama lakṣmaṇa
tam1 uvāca = told; ātmavān = the self-disciplined; rāmaḥ = Rāma; prītyā = affectionately; lakṣmaṇam = Lakṣmaṇa; āgatam = who had arrived; kāle = at the time; tvam = You; āgataḥ = have come; saumya = gentle; kāṅkṣite mama = I waited for; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa.
The self-disciplined Rāma affectionately told Lakṣmaṇa who had arrived: Gentle Lakṣmaṇa, You have come at the time I waited for.
