Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 33: Rāma, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa Depart to Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.33.7

ऐश्वर्यस्य रसज्ञः सन्कामिनां चैव कामदः।
नेच्छत्येवानृतं कर्तुं पितरं धर्मगौरवात्॥

aiśvaryasya rasajñaḥ san kāmināṁ caiva kāmadaḥ
necchaty evānṛtaṁ kartuṁ pitaraṁ dharma-gauravāt

aiśvaryasya = of accumulating wealth; rasajñaḥ san = having experienced the taste; kāminām = to those who hanker for wealth; ca eva = and; kāmadaḥ = having bestowed the desirables; na = not; icchati eva = He does want; anṛtam kartum = to become untrue; pitaram = His father; dharma-gauravāt = out of respect for dharma.

Having experienced the taste of accumulating wealth and having bestowed the desirables to those who hanker for wealth, out of respect for dharma, He does not want His father to become untrue [to his promise].

Rāma respected dharma, that is, the dharma of serving one’s father, carrying out his instructions and so on.
