Chapter 34: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.34.54
येन संस्तम्भनीयोऽयं सर्वो बाष्पगलो जनः।
स त्वं पुरुषशार्दूल किमर्थं विक्रियां गतः॥
yena saṁstambhanīyo ’yaṁ sarvo bāṣpa-galo janaḥ
sa tvaṁ puruṣa-śārdūla kim-arthaṁ vikriyāṁ gataḥ
yena = who; saṁstambhanīyaḥ = are meant to stop; ayam = these; sarvaḥ = of all; bāṣpa-galaḥ = the tears from [choking] their throats; janaḥ = people; saḥ tvam = you; puruṣa-śārdūla = O king; kim-artham = why; vikriyām = disturbed; gataḥ = have you become.
O king, why have you, who are meant to stop the tears of all these people from [choking] their throats, become disturbed?
